Homemade Creations: Parents and Toddlers get Stuck in!

Nonsense! You don't need to buy special art materials to get creative. There is SO much in your cupboards at home for you and your child (or just you) to use. Get creative passing the time bonding whilst having FUN!

Stemming from the free flowing elements of my practice own photography practice I planned and hosted a free flow morning workshop on the 28th July 2016 at the Shoreditch Trust. Parents and their children could play with homemade play dough, toys, books and sensory toys as core activities and during this time we had drop in mini activities so parents and children could participate in getting creative themselves.

In the mini sessions we had a try at making homemade toys and materials such as play dough — looking at various materials from around the house they could use. It was such fun getting stuck in with our hands and having colourful finger tips whilst doing it!

Other mini activities included making sensory toys using recycled bottles of various she and sizes to create some fabulous (mini scientist) shakers and other colourful, glittery and oily concoctions.

We made sock puppets, raised the roof with active story telling and finished the day with finger painting that turned into body painting!

It was lots of fun and for many children this was their first time painting too! Getting creative with child/ren is a great way to explore various textures and utensils whist also getting them to investigate and explore. Don"t be scared to get messy you'll be surprised what fun you both can have!
